Built-in Entryway Storage: How to Tackle Entryway Clutter with a Custom Mudroom

3 minute read, by Closet America, on May 21, 2019

With a built-in entryway storage system from Closet America, it’ll be easy to keep everything neat and orderly.

One of the happiest sounds that can fill a house is that of the kids at the back door, coming home from school or a friend’s house or just playing outside. Jackets and boots, balls and backpacks going thump on the floor, and the dog scampers around them in delight. A lovely scene, to be sure—if a bit of a hectic one.

Now imagine the kids coming in and putting their things away in your conveniently equipped, beautiful mudroom. With a built-in entryway storage system from Closet America, everything can have a place, and it’ll be easy to keep everything neat and orderly. Not only that, Mom and Dad will finally have space for a few of their things, too.

Home Organization Starts with Built-in Entryway Storage

You don’t need soccer balls and baseball bats in the house, much less muddy shoes and dog toys. When you have plenty of storage space at the entryway, the things you would prefer to keep out of the house have somewhere to go. Then you don’t have to cram them into inconvenient spaces elsewhere in the home, and you don’t have to clean up the dirt that’s tracked in with them. The mudroom can also be a good place to store bulky winter jackets, hats, and umbrellas. It’s your mudroom—it’s up to you what will live in it.

There are a lot of options for customizing a mudroom, and it is easy to pick and choose the elements that work best for you. Some of your choices include:

  • Lockers—Tall, narrow compartments equipped with polished metal hooks, with or without doors, help maintain peace among territorial siblings by providing a separate space for everybody’s jackets and gear.

  • Shelves—You can intersperse shelving between lockers (or above them) for the little things that don’t need to be isolated in a locker.

  • Shoe shelves—Below the lockers, shoe shelves can be installed, and the jumble that is always spreading across the entire entranceway can be kept in check forever.

  • A bench—It’s not always easy putting your shoes on and taking them off while standing, so a nice, comfy bench is often a welcome addition to the system.

  • Drawers—It’s a good idea to have a few drawers. They allow you to sort the small stuff as you wish and keep it from getting mixed up—no more playing tennis with the dog’s ball. Drawers go nicely under a bench. (On the other hand, for something a little more open, wire baskets are also an option.)

  • A countertop—Space permitting, it’s nice to have a place to leave things temporarily, whether it’s the kids’ backpacks while they put their shoes on, or things like sack lunches or shopping lists left out the evening before, so they aren’t forgotten in the morning.

With custom design, you can set up your mudroom however you like, depending on your family’s needs and preferences.
