Check out these new year, new closet tips for well-organized and aesthetically pleasing modern closets from our experts.

Closet Organization Tips

Before getting into all the closet trends that we expect to be big in 2023 or to carry over from last year, we should first cover some basic closet organization tips. After all, if you’ve never put much thought on how to organize your wardrobe or it’s been a long time since you last made any changes, it can be difficult to know where to start. We always recommend beginning by pulling everything out of your closet space so you can see everything that was in there, rather than going off memory. After getting everything out, you’ll want to sort your items into three different categories: keep, donate, or toss. You’ll likely find a variety of clothing and accessories you forgot you even had. There will probably be at least a few items you find that you don’t need or don’t want anymore. Additionally, knowing exactly what kind of clothing and accessories you have and need to store will give you a better idea of what closet trends would work best for organizing them effectively.

Modern Closets & Closet Trends

Modern closets are all about optimizing every square inch of a space with as many functional features as possible. Even if you don’t have a walk-in closet, there are still plenty of ways for you to maximize your closet space. For example, features like valet rods, adjustable shelving, drawers, shoe racks, hideaway laundry hampers, and more can really make a big difference on the functionality of your closet space.

(I took out first sentence) Many modern closet trends aim to combine both style and functionality. We find these trends to be the most impactful because if you really love your closet space, you’ll be more likely to use it and keep it organized. Here are some of the styling tips & trends you might want to consider in your own space:

  • Understated colors: Consider putting thought into the overall design and color scheme of your closet space. For example, if you’re wanting to use a statement piece such as a bold wallpaper or an intricate lighting fixture, you can use understated colors like gray, white, and off-white to help these more striking features stand out more.
  • Gold glam: When designing your dream closet, you’ll want to consider every detail, no matter how small. That means giving thought to the kind of hardware that will be used for drawer handles, knobs, hinges, and hanging rods. One of the more popular closet trends is to use matte gold hardware. Matte gold accents will give the space a subtle, yet more luxurious feel that can add an “extra” pop of style.
  • Textured door fronts: Lots of modern closets play with texture to subtly mix up the look and feel of a space. A rougher texture can make your closet feel more rustic, natural, and grounded. Alternatively, a smooth texture achieves a sleek, sophisticated, and contemporary feel. It all depends on what kind of vibe you’re going for.

Many people hopping on the new year, new closet trends are not only transforming their existing closet with these tips but are also creating more closet space for themselves through custom closet solutions. Modern closets can come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes. Therefore, any room or space can be turned into a closet with the right custom organizational system.
