DC Professionals Keep Their Suits Sharp With a Built-in Ironing Board In Their Walk-In Closet

4 minute read, by Closet America, on May 11, 2016

In a town full of meetings, many DC professionals choose to augment their walk-in closet with a built-in ironing board, a fast and convenient way to always look sharp.

There’s never really a good time to commute in Washington DC. Whether you live in the city itself or outside the Beltway, traffic times are terrible—at over 32 minutes, among the worst in the nation—and the weird layout of oddly-angled streets in DC proper certainly doesn’t help. Anyone who has been rushing to go to a meeting can tell stories of jumping in a cab and realizing that it would have been much faster to walk, even all the way across town. Public transportation is great, but problems with the Metro, including possible shutdowns, make it that much less reliable.

This means that people working around DC  have to maximize their time by minimizing the time spent getting ready. Being organized, with a closet where everything is in its right place and easily accessible, is a big part of that. You can grab what you need and then go fight the commute, without wasting time rummaging around. But sometimes just “grabbing” isn’t going to work. DC is a town full of high-powered meetings, and showing up wrinkled isn’t going to cut it. That’s why many professionals choose to augment their walk-in closet with a built-in ironing board. This is a fast and convenient way to make sure that you look sharp, and are on time, every time.

The Benefits of a Built-In Ironing Board

A lot of people have their ironing board in the laundry room, which, if well-organized, can be a great place to take care of all your laundry needs. But some laundry rooms aren’t big enough for one, and, of course, many people in DC condos and townhouses might not have a designated laundry room. For some people, finding the room to both store a folded up board and set it up (not to mention the hassle of clearing space) can be almost prohibitively annoying. This is where the convenience of a built-in ironing board in your walk-in closet comes in.

For one thing, it is right there where you need it, next to your clothes. But it doesn’t take up space. An ironing board built into a custom-designed walk-in is done so that it folds away into the cabinetry, and is out of sight until you need it. Having this immediately accessible, right where you store your clothes, has a lot of benefits for the time-conscious professional.

  • You can iron clothes in the morning. That shirt you pulled off the shelf might not have been folded exactly right, and is pretty wrinkled. Instead of making ironing a large chore, with the built-in you can do it piece-by-piece, as needed: like when you suddenly realize that the pants you need to impress at today’s presentation look like they were just pulled out of a Pringles can.

  • You can put clothes away unwrinkled. You’ve gotten home from a long day and a seemingly longer commute, and want to put away your clothes so you can have “sweatpants and binge-watch” time, but you know you’ll need that button-up again before you have a chance to take it to the cleaners. You can hang it up, freshly-ironed, right in your closet, so that the next time you pull it out it’ll look like it just was pressed. Not only does putting clothes away correctly make them last longer, but you can save time in the morning by making sure the ironing was already done.

  • You can change quickly. I don’t know how many times we’ve heard of people who were dressed casually and then had to rush home because they needed to have a professional look in the afternoon. A client coming in, or a meeting they’ve been trying to book suddenly came through, but at the absolute last minute. Dealing with getting back home, and then back to the meeting is stressful enough. Knowing that you have clothes on the rack that have been ironed, or that can be very quickly, is a fantastic stress reducer.

  • You can always look sharp. A few wrinkles aren’t going to dramatically change the course of your life. But looking your best, clean and freshly-pressed, is a good way to make friends and influence people. Having a built-in ironing board in your custom-designed closet means you don’t have to worry about going out wrinkled and disheveled. You can always present the best you possible.

The Built-in Ironing Board Is a Key Component of the Custom-Designed Walk-In
